Mixing is the work of balancing, placing and fitting the sounds in a track together. EQ, compression, reverb and delay are its core tools. Mastering prepares a finished mix for different listening systems. The two stages feed each other but call for a different ear.
Sound design teaches you to build sounds from scratch on a synthesizer and to understand oscillators, filters and modulation. A clean recording is where all of this begins.
